Chicago Botanic Garden reminds us which native flowers feed hummingbirds

chicagobotanicgarden | August 27, 2010  | We learned some interesting things about hummingbirds in this interview with Ecologist Jim Steffen. You’ll find hummingbirds in many of our 24 display gardens and in our three native habitats. You’ll also find many other resident and migratory birds at the Chicago Botanic Garden because of the diversity of plant life. Visit http://www.chicagobotanic.org/birds for more information on birding at the Garden.

Garlic Mustard video: learn about this invasive in all its horrid glory

Following is a laudable overview of invasive Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) courtesy of the staff of the Chicago Botanic Garden. When this alien plant began infesting the U.S., its habitat was profiled as being wooded settings, but as you can see here, it’s just as happy to conquer in full sun.

May 7, 2010 — Joan O’Shaughnessy, ecologist at the Chicago Botanic Garden, shows us how to identify Garlic Mustard and explains the importance of removing it and other invasive plants to protect our native habitats. You can learn about this and so much more at World Environment Day at the Chicago Botanic Garden on June 5, 2010. Visit chicago-botanic.org for more information.
