Portland, Oregon, outlaws property owners from harboring 15 invasive species

As of July 1, 2010, all Portland property owners will be required to remove the plants from the following Required Eradication List according to City Code Title 29 Property Maintenance Regulations:

1. Russian Knapweed (Rhaponticum repends)
2. False Brome (Brachypodium sylvaticum)
3. Italian Thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus, aka Slender Flowered Thistle)
4. Jubata Grass (Cortaderia jubata)
5. Paterson’s Curse (Echium plantagineum)
6. Giant Hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum)
7. Orange Hawkweed (Hieracium aurantiacum)
8. Meadow Hawkweed (formerly Yellow Hawkweed, Hieracium pratense)
9. Policemen’s Helmet (Impatiens glandulifera, pictured at left)
10. Scotch Thistle (Onopordum acanthium)
11. Common Reed (Phragmites australis)
12. Kudzu (Pueraria montana var. lobata)
13. Blessed Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)
14. Salt Cedar (Tamarix spp.)
15. Gorse (Ulex spp.)
