Earthworms found to act as predators of some seeds and plants

A study published in the journal Soil Biology and Biochemistry demonstrates that earthworms do not always wait to consume rotting matter, but will actually harvest viable seeds and growing plants. In experiments conducted by Dr. Nico Eisenhauer of the Georg-August-University Göttingen in Germany, earthworms selectively fed on slow-germinating, nitrogen-rich seeds and seedlings.
