Fresh air equated with healthier blood pressure

Urban-area dwellers whose air is high in particulate air pollution tend to have higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure according to research presented at the American Thoracic Society 2010 International Conference. “Our results might explain why people who live in more polluted areas are at a higher risk, to suffer and die from [cardiovascular] diseases,” said Dr. Barbara Hoffman, head of the Unit of Environmental and Clinical Epidemiology, University of Duisburg-Essen, and senior author of the study.
