Conservation Maven’s Rod Goldstein reports today on a measurement tool created by Matt Rinella, rangeland ecologist, Agricultural Research Service. By sampling and calculating the percentage of invasive plants present on grazing sites, ranchers can see how much production value they’re losing to weeds like Spotted Knapweed (Centaurea stoebe) and Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia esula). The hope is that the calculator will illustrate to landowners the economic imperative of fighting invasive plants. Read more here.
