Wildfires—natural phenomena—too costly to fight?

The U.S. Forest Service estimates that the cost of fighting wildfires has risen to approximately $3 billion annually, and the primary urgency for fighting those fires is to protect private homes adjacent to Forest Service lands. Now fire specialists working in conjunction with NASA are attempting to develop a viable fire-resistant, house-protecting blanket which could be deployed ahead of the fire line. Read more here.
