Phragmites australius: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center update

“Phragmites australis took its sweet time taking over East Coast wetlands” — so begins the latest online report about this invasive plant which has been working its way into America’s wetlands for 200 years. The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center’s Melissa McCormick has researched what reproduction method is responsible for this Phragmites’ dynamic spread, and her data have been published in the March 2010 issue of Wetlands magazine.
